Thanks to everyone who supported our amazing event in collaboration with
Toy Box Of Hope on August 5th called Chance To Play 2012!
As you probably already know, Chance To Play came about after I met a young man named Ryan Potter at the Nickelodeon Halo Awards. You might know Ryan as Mike Fukanaga on the hit Nickelodeon show, Supah Ninjas. While balancing a demanding career, intense martial arts, school, and life, Ryan founded his own organization, Toy Box Of Hope. Ryan saw the problems and challenges facing the homeless in his home city, Los Angeles, and decided to get up and do something about it. Ryan's Toy Box Of Hope is bold in that it strives to eradicate youth homelessness from the city of Los Angeles, but simple in it's belief in the power of hope, which can come from something as simple as giving a toy to a child.
Ryan and I decided to hold Chance To Play 2012 to raise awareness and funds for both of our organizations, and to show kids how both FUNDaFIELD and Toy Box Of Hope were started by young people like themselves. We held a red carpet, celebrity soccer game at USC, where 30 young celebrities came out and played to raise money for kids in LA and all around the world. What was amazing was that these kids who work 11 hour days and have insanely busy schedules donated their time to Chance To Play in order to bring awareness to the importance of sports, play and hope, for disadvantaged children all around the world.
Stars like Alex Wong, Kent Boyd and Tadd Gadduang from So You Think You Can Dance flipped around the field, while Kenton Duty(Lost, Shake It Up) and Erin Sanders(Zoey 101, Big Time Rush) took charge of their teams. Teen superstar band IM5, Travis Wong's tricking group JAM, and Groov3 performed to a crowd of screaming fans during halftime, and the IM5 boys even played in the second half. We had awesome hosts in comedians Stephen Glickman (Big Time) and Kirk Fox (Parks and Recreation, How To Rock). Other stars like Lulu Antariksa(How To Rock), Matt Bennett(Victorious), Ashley Argota(True Jackson VP), Trevor Jackson(Let It Shine), Ryan Ochoa(Pair Of Kings),Sterling Beaumon(Clue), and singers Dylan Hyde and Lia Marie Johnson not only met their fans, but played in the celebrity soccer game. If that wasn't enough, Chris O'Neal, Giselle Bonilla, Stephen Lunsford, Sarah McMullen, Taylor Gray, Dillon Lane, Evan Hofer, Cassidy Lehrman, Jade Pettyjohn, Matthew Fahey, Madison McLaughlin, and tons of other celebrities competed fiercely at Chance To Play 2012.
This was no ordinary soccer game though, water balloons, frisbees, whipped cream pies, and The Cha Cha Slide all were part of the crazy match. Celebrity meet and greets were a fan favorite along with our amazing raffle. Many of the participants said it was the best event they have ever been to!
The best part is, this is just the beginning, we want to grow Chance To Play into a yearly fundraiser that raises enough money to build three fields every single year! We are already working on going bigger and better next year and we hope you will all be involved as sponsors, players, fundraisers, volunteers, and supporters!
Thanks so much,
Kyle Weiss
