Kyabirwa Primary School is a government school, close to Bujagali Falls, near Jinja in Uganda.
There are between 1,000 and 1,500 children at Kyabirwa Primary School. Class size ranges from 50 to 200 pupils.
Many of the kids at the school are orphans and life expectancy is just 48 years.
Children and adults in the community love soccer. If someone in the village has a radio, people gather and listen to British soccer games. The children have their favorite soccer teams, usually Manchester United, Chelsea or Arsenal. Soccer brings joy to the community!
Here are some letters from the community...
Bujagali Falls is not far from the school. The Falls are considered the source of the Nile.
Green bananas or “matoke” are the staple food of Uganda. They are eaten boiled, mashed, served with peanut sauce or roasted.
In September of 2009, we joined Greg Mortenson on stage at Red Rocks to share the story of FUNDaFIELD. Brooke Stern was at the event. She passionately told us about a community in Uganda that desperately needed a field. She felt so strongly about helping this community that she had packed her bags and moved to Bujagali to found SOUL. The mission of SOUL is to expand the reach of educational opportunities in impoverished Ugandan communities by laying a foundation of unique and bold initiatives, occurring in and out of the classroom.
FUNDaFIELD was thrilled to construct a field at Kyabirwa and to host the Uganda Cup Soccer Tournament.
