Ever since Katie and I began playing soccer, it had become an enormous part of our lives. To think that majority of the developing third world countries do not have the same privileges and luxuries as we do here, is devastating. Our dedication to the sport we love, and our ambition to make a difference in this world, led us to join FUNDaFIELD. It only takes one person to make a difference, and we realized this could be our chance. Soccer had a huge impact on our lives. We learned more social skills, made new friends, and it is also an escape from daily life. Three days a week, we have the luxury of going to soccer practice, to a group of people who have the same goals we do, and we are able to enjoy ourselves in the safe environment. We hope that by joining FUNDaFIELD, we are able to provide these kind of opportunities to impoverished children.
Our main goal this year is to raise $2,000. Our focus is the importance of sports in people's lives. You don't have to like soccer to be in this club. You can absolutely hate soccer and love another sport; the point is giving children in unfortunate areas an opportunity to play a team sport and gain enrichment in their lives. Anyone who has played a sport knows the impact it has had on their lives. Sports teach you such important life skills and traits, we want to be able to share our experience with others that normally wouldn't be able to.
OCTOBER 2011
This month, we held another club meeting, and we decided we were going to volunteer at our Homecoming Carnival. We signed up to work at one booth, and people got together and made Rice Krispie Treats to sell as well. The booth went smoothly, and we ended up raising $50 just for volunteering at our Carnival, and then we raised around $50 from selling the Rice Krispie Treats.
SEPTEMBER 2011
Dublin High FUNDaFIELD hosted a booth at our school's annual Club Fair. We ended up having about 35 people sign up. About two weeks later, we held our first club meeting. We introduced the club, it's goal, and then we started planning what we were going to do for the Homecoming Carnival.
2010 - 2011
We were very excited to help spread the word about FUNDaFIELD, a brand new club at our school, and gain support from students, faculty, and parents.
